What are the components of Salary in BPNL?

  • Basic Pay–  it is in 3 parts: Number1, Number2, Percent

Number2- It is the maximum basic pay a person can receive when he will be assigned to a designated post.

Percent- to compensate for an inflation, an increment will be added to your basic pay after a fixed period. This increment will be in percent of your current basic pay and the fixed period is usually a year.

  • Grade Pay– Apart from the basic pay, employees will receive a grade pay which will be based on the category/class of the employees.
  • Dearness Allowance– This is calculated as a percentage of ( Basic salary+ grade pay). Dearness Allowance is updated every quarter of calendar year to compensate for inflation in consumer price index. It may either decrease or increase base on the inflation rate.
  • House Rent Allowance– It is the allowance paid to the employees by the employer for their rented accommodation.
  • Other Miscellaneous allowances-this includes shift allowances, phone allowances, travel allowances, etc.

PSU ( Public Sector Undertaking)  refers to the commercial ventures of the Government where user fees are charged for services rendered. The Tariff/fees may be market based or subsidized. They are usually wholly owned and managed by the Government.

On the other hand Government Company may be either wholly owned by the government , in which case 100% capital is provided by the government or may be owned by the government holding minimum of 51% share-capital.
